Playing boys
First of all, this is what I get when I say “Pepper?” to Auggie these days.
Apparently absence makes the heart grow fonder?
His head shape is changing. His needlenose is getting longer, LOL. Soon the top of his head should start to expand some.
I was moving to take photos and he was looking at me suspiciously, like I may try to grab that sheep at ANY SECOND…
Auggie chews toys, too. But often when he was a toy, Payton wants it, so he doesn’t get much peace to chew.
But Payton is teething hardcore right now so Ropey Sheep is a great chew for him.
We just started wrestling a few days ago. It often looks like this after Auggie shoulders Payton or butt-bumps him into going belly up.
Just a few pics…
New fave. <3 <3
Wouldn’t you know it – we went to breeder’s house so she could glue down his one ear and the other ear came up less than two hours after we got home that night. =P She told me how to glue it down so I’m going to give it a shot, probably tonight. She thinks they are tipping really nicely so far though.
And a very happy Auggie!
Me + My Boys
Asked Mom to take these tonight… obviously didn’t turn out anything like the photos with me and Pepper but unless I specifically ask people to take some photos, I won’t have any photos of me with Payton as a puppy. (Well, I’ll have some when we get pro photos done in November, but he just keeps growing, so…)
Trying to get him to look at the camera…
I can’t believe she caught this one, it’s amazing, haha.
He is trying to eat my face off HALP
Yay cuddly baby!!
Auggie watching all of this go on…
I couldn’t get him to smile so we both looked sad instead, LOL.
One Ear Up
One of the ears came almost entirely unglued and was being twisted some, so I took the unglued ear out. The other ear is still glued so I left it. The result is… kinda funny, haha!
I got a few of Auggie today, but they ended up blurry. =< He's busy just poking around while I chase Payton all over the yard removing grass and sticks and leaves and cicadas from his mouth…
Chomping leaves brings out the anime happy eyes??
His biggest love. Payton needs no toys… only leaves. (and we have an expressive ear!)
Rolling around on the grass. I keep trying to get a photo of him upside down but it’s not going so well!
Action shots of Payton
Finally switched modes on my camera, so I got some good shots of the puppy in motion today!
The basketball is obviously Auggie’s, but Payton loves this toy. I need to go get him a football one… I’m pretty sure they make one that’s identical but a football instead of a basketball.
One of his ears has come partially undone, I dunno if you can tell in the photos.
It’s funny because the toy is almost as big as he is, LOL. It drags on the ground unless he holds it just right.
And Auggie with his strawberry. He usually has limited interest in the plastic toys. Today he was obsessed with his plastic toys because I’ve been giving them to Payton to play with, and of course he wanted them because Payton had them. (I’m not actually complaining, I would like him to play with these more. They were slightly expensive even though I bought the majority on sale at 50% off.)
Auggie loves strawberries so it’s appropriate.
And Pay inside with the artichoke. The artichoke was the first one I bought because it was just too funny!
Baby’s First Bath
Apologies that several are blurry – unfortunately I can’t give the puppy a bath AND take photos at the same time, so my mom was nice enough to grab the camera. Also, he’s wiggly, so getting a non-blurry shot is a crapshoot to start.
Ahhh, a wet puppy! His paws look disproportionately HUGE when all of his fur is wet down, LOL.
I don’t think I like you anymore new MomLady.
And obligatory sheltiesaurus pics… LOL.
My poor dogs.
RINSE! Look at his nice neck. He actually HAS a neck. I bet the first time he goes to see the chiropractor she’s going to tell him he has a nice neck like the rest of his family.
Is abuzed.
sooooo abuzed…
somebody start singing “Angel…”
And then I grabbed a pink towel to wrap him in, LOL. Oh the inhumanity.
SHAKE!!
Also, baby is no longer nameless – I tried many many MANY names but the only name that really, truly fits him… is Payton. After #34.
So now both of my boy dogs are named after local sports players. Which leaves Miss Pepper as the special case when she comes home to join us, LOL. Which she just plain is the exception… so I actually kinda like it that way. (Though I could start calling her “Peppers” and say she’s named after Julius Peppers, haha.)
More of the nameless baby
Still kicking names around. Every time I think I come up with one, it ends up rejected because it sounds too much like another dog’s name, or I know a dog with that name, or or or…
But first, Auggie being adorable!! (overexposed, boo =<)
Shark doooog, shaaaark dooog…
Stupid sunlight screwing up what would otherwise be a REALLY lovely photo…
I need to switch my lenses and switch my settings, because just about everything is coming out blurry, LOL. So far Auggie likes his little brother, except sometimes he is really annoying. I am secretly enjoying the fact that Auggie is annoyed by the puppy, since I told him for a long time that I was going to unleash an annoying puppy on him as payback. On the other hand, whenever Auggie decides he REALLY wants to play, sometimes the puppy is in turn like “OMG TOOOOOO MUUUUUCH” because clearly Auggie can still be really obnoxious with the best of them. But they are getting along well on the whole and the puppy just loooooves his big brother. He follows him all over the place. If Auggie is looking at something, the puppy has to be looking at it, too. This is actually kind of helpful because the puppy is learning quite a bit just from poking around after Auggie.
The Newcomer
An as-yet-unnamed monster brat has joined your party!
A match made in heaven…? Or just two little brats plotting together?
Couch Potato
Normally he curls up next to the armrest… not last night. Nope. I came up from taking my shower and walked past the couch to see this.
Spoiled. brat.
(I’m guessing it was cooler to sprawl in the center of the couch, directly under the ceiling fan, instead of curled up by an armrest.)
Sock Monkey
Auggie has some kind of infection going on with his foot right now… there’s a nice big swollen bump between two toes on one paw pad. First I coned him. He could still reach his paw even coned. So then I got out a sock and socked him. This worked (although he continued messing with the sock) but my socks are HUGE and he is tiny. We tried one of my mom’s socks and even that was rather large.
So I bought him some toddler socks from Target.
They even match his blue vet wrap that I’m using to keep the sock on.
Also Auggie thinks vet wrap is delicious. He has ripped it off, chewed it into a tiny little ball, and eaten it three times, and was unhappy that I made him throw it up all three times.
Me & Pepper
love this one.
she likes to put her head back and try to slobber kisses all over whatever she can reach – usually your eyes and/or nose.
her face in this one hahahaha
and just to prove she can ruin a perfectly good shot… stupid tongue!
LOLOLOLOL
I wish Auggie weren’t in the background ruining this one… this is the Pepper I wish the world could see. This is how I see her. She is so funny when she’s not busy being afraid of things. I feel like I’m the only one who sees her for how she really is right now.
Playing with her bro – he went after a squirrel (almost caught it, too, because it nearly fell off the fence and right into his open mouth.) and she ran after him, then they bounced around for a while.
little peppy girl.
Success with the wait command, and family photo attempts
Hurray!! I have started pushing “wait” with Pepper the last week or so (they have to wait before they get released to their bowls) and it looks like it’s starting to pay off! She is still very new to it, I can’t make much noise or anything or she’ll get up and come to me, but she at least has the general idea now. Unfortunately this means I can’t do much to get her to focus on me (she hates the camera and thinks it’s evil) or try to make her look a bit more excited, LOL.
Testing… testing… how far back do I dare go?
I’m maybe ten feet away and kneeling. HURRAY!
Except she’s eating grass.
Grass chew… wait for it…
graceful CHOMP
“Pepper stop eating the gr- crap.”
Okay, so I called Auggie over. He was having NONE of this.
“At least try to look like you like each other,” I said. “No,” said Auggie.
*facepalm*
Pepper is losing interest… Auggie still loathes me for ever bringing this bitch home…
Pepper got up so now it’s Auggie’s turn for solo portraits.
Except he hates me. Hates. me. from the bottom of his soul. (This one cracks me up.)
Sigh…
Grudgingly looks at me…
One nice shot, aaaand-
now he’s done.
Try #2 with them both. Uhhh…
“Pepper don’t eat the-
– crap!!!”
Auggie then took pity on me, or decided to show off. I’m not sure which.
Lookin’ at the flower…
Obviously weighing in his mind how much he hates me versus how much he loves me.
Oh, be still my heart. He can be a handsome little monster when he wants to be.
Or a big cutie!
And then I had to ruin it all by bringing Pepper over.
Ummm… can we both look in the same direction?
oh LOL Auggie and your stinkeye.
Then Pepper had to blink, apparently.
Semi-nice… the focus is not very sharp but it’s close…
aaaand then Pepper makes a ridiculous face that looks like somebody drew on her with marker…
Aaaaaand Pepper’s outta here! Game over.
Good boy Auggie sat there until I said “good boy, come here.” He’s a very good little monster who will hopefully not kill me in my sleep.
Moar Panties
Baaaahahahahaha…
Playin’ in panties…
Auggie does not want the panties.
Pepper likee. Apparently she thinks Auggie is sexy in his panties. Flirt flirt!
Here she goes again. Dang it all Pepper STOP FLIRTING.
They were playing in the other room and I hear “Auggie… Auggie you can’t hump her… AUGGIE… ….ummmm…”
So I go in there and there’s PEE on the floor. But Pepper is wearing her diaper, so it HAD to have been Auggie. I thought this might have happened last time but it made more sense to have been Pepper, but now I know for sure. Auggie is trying to hump her and then pee on her like he used to do with his puppy bed. That all stopped after he was neutered but now that Pepper is around with all her girly hormones going, I guess we’re back to square one.
Freaking. hornball.
Pepper’s Sexy Pants
I bought these just to be prepared for bleeding.
I would like you all to know that Auggie tried to rip her panties off.
(Apologies for the bad photos, these are from the P&S. And also the camera appears to be a sign that she needs to glue herself to me so I can’t get good photos.)
Why you put these on me? Why?
Actually she doesn’t really seem to mind them. I was laughing when I put them on her so she was wagging her tail and has only taken a nibble or two at them. Otherwise she doesn’t really care.
Unless Auggie is grabbing them and attempting to rip them off her, that is.
I would also like you all to know that I bought a two pack and therefore I also put a pair on panties on Auggie, but I don’t have any photos because I was laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe and I thought I might pass out. Also he seemed to think the panties were a magical force that stopped him from moving and he could no longer walk with the panties on.
More photos from today (sans derpy Pepper)
Auggie and his RIDICULOUS coat that I still can’t figure out where it came from.
Seriously, WTF. Apparently Pepper gets the testosterone rolling for Auggie even though he has no balls and then this happened? That’s all I can think.
Pepper thinks it’s hilaaaarious.
This is the look she usually gives me.
Squintyfaec.
Lookin’ in the garden. Some of my co-workers told me they can’t tell the difference between Auggie and Pepper. How can you NOT tell the difference?! LOL. They are almost literally like night and day…
Attempt at Pretty, Round 2
Sigh… really? What kind of face is that?
I would kind of like something that doesn’t look like every other photo I’ve already taken.
The one semi-pretty shot we got.
The rest of them all looked like this because as soon as I started to get down towards ground level she would jump up, run over, and climb all over me.
No Auggie photos because he was off somewhere eating grass this time. Or staring at a rock. I found him in the back of the yard just staring intently at a rock. I think there may have been a bug on it or something and it crawled away and he was waiting for it to come back. At least I hope so, because otherwise he was just staring intently at a rock for no reason.
I’ve discovered another one…
Yet another rare, undiscovered species of dinosaur.
The Peppysaurus.
It is a very sad species of dinosaur.
Photo Attempts
I have a pretty girl dog so I should be able to take pretty, girly photos now… right?
Auggie would like to demonstrate how you do this whole “pretty photo” thing.
And I mean he was pullin’ out the big guns and everything. Sheesh.
I gave up on trying to get pretty photos and just started throwing the tennis ball instead. She has her very own pink tennis ball but I left it in the house (I don’t want it to get gross), and I was kind of surprised she was fetching this one for me. It’s nasty and gross and I’m sure it tastes of Auggie slobber and outside-ickiness. But she was game, so we kept playing with it until it started thundering and I packed it in to go back to work.
Easter Egg Hunt 2011
Auggie: EASTER EGGS YEAH
Pepper: I have no idea what we are doing wheeee!
Step 1: Find the egg
Step 2: Grab egg in mouth and squeeze gently to open
Step 3: Eat treat that emerges from opened egg
oh hay Auggie what you smellin over here
what is that
I think I want it but I have no idea what to do.
Auggie shows Pepper how it’s done… I think that was the only treat he let her eat. The rest he gobbled up and completely ignored her.
Auggie is ALL about this game. He rocks at it at this point.
Such a smart little man!
The other one, though… um… LOL
WHERE IS THE NEXT EGG GOTTA GET IT
Pepper saw this egg while Auggie was opening one on the opposite end and she was SO EXCITED! She ran up to it all “OMG I FOUND ONE!!”
…and then promptly was like “now what I do?”
Can eats the empty eggs? She picked up an empty egg half and brought it to me while Auggie was zooming around finding all the eggs and opening them and I told her she was a very good girl, and then she thought THAT was the game: retrieving the empty egg halves. *facepalm*
Auggie and I (okay I did) felt bad for her so I put one back together and threw it for her like a tennis ball, thinking it might excite her enough she would pick it up and maybe accidentally open it and get the cookie. This was HER egg. All hers.
She still never figured it out.
Auggie says “Dis my basket. No stinky girls ‘lowed.”
Allllll my eggs!
Please forgive the fact that he needs to be groomed a bit… he’s got his mustache kinda goin’ on here…
“Okay, now you can dump them all out,” I told him.
Auggie with sheep
It might seem like Pepper is dominating the blog right now, but that’s just because she is new and most of the annoying things Auggie is doing relate to her anyway.
HOWEVER… we are entered in our very first herding trial soon – we’re going to take a shot at herding at Sheltie Nationals 2011!
I took some photos while out at his breeder’s house while she was working him, but they are not very good – the sun was setting by the time we got to work so I didn’t have much light to take good action photos. The sheep are in focus more than Auggie.
And here is a link to a short video my mom took.
If you didn’t know better, it might look like they’re playing
Hurray!
She’s too slow – and if you only knew the struggles Auggie & I have been having you would think it very funny that Pepper is too slow for Auggie…
PEPPER DERPFACE
What you don’t see is that Auggie actually turned around and ran the other direction around the jump chute to me after this because he finally realized tearing after her at top speed wasn’t actually going to influence her to play with him.
She did actually grab the tennis ball in her mouth ONCE and took a few steps towards me with it in her mouth. Unfortunately as a result of seeing her actually grab the tennis ball in her mouth I started throwing a “OH GOOD GIRL PEPPER!!” party and I think that terrified her, LOL. *facepalm*
Between Auggie, who apparently thinks the best way to initiate play is to divebomb her at top speed from across the yard, and me, who hasn’t yet learned that when she does something slightly brave that loud and exciting is probably NOT the best way to encourage her, I’m pretty sure she’s right – she IS living in a horror movie, and the Crazy Banzai Twins are ruining her life…
Somebody’s in the wrong bed, and More Pepper
The bed with peppers on it and the pink toys would suggest this is not the correct bed for my bad monster. Auggie disagrees and submits the argument that technically EVERYTHING in this house is his therefore this is also his bed.
Somehow I can’t quite dismiss his argument.
Photographic evidence that she HAS slept in this house… this was taken her first night here when she finally settled in her crate and fell asleep.
This is typically the shot I get of her, LOL. I can’t get much further back.
So then I took the same shot of Auggie, LOL.
Monster man <3
She walked away from me for a second. Whoo! Standing by the jump chute (she won’t actually take any of the jumps even though they’re only 4″.)
Comin’ back to me.
Ahhh! They’re standing next to each other!!
Standing next to each other again!!
I tried to get a nice one of her and Auggie together but she doesn’t really listen to sit and she DEFINITELY doesn’t listen to stay so it wasn’t happening. Auggie sat there patiently and waited and finally I just told him he was a good boy, forget it, and he could go play now. Sometimes I think he must be sitting there next to me and Pepper, watching her, and thinking “Gosh, it’s just SIT. It’s not like it’s hard. Just SIT!”
She is settling down faster when I sit down somewhere instead of pacing around like something terrible is about to happen… the first couple of days, if I sat down at the computer or sat down to flip through channels on the TV, I ended up stuck there for a while because I wanted to wait for her to settle down before I got back up. Now she seems to have learned that, okay, if somebody has sat down, we’re going to be here for a bit so lay down and take a break! But she still won’t settle enough to take any naps outside of her crate (and even inside her crate, if people are around, she’s awake and alert)… and she still won’t play with anybody, including Auggie. Sigh.
Needs More Pepper
I purchased… some things.
Pink things.
In preparation for this:
Pepper has returned for Attempt #2.
She is pretty much stuck like glue to me so I couldn’t get far enough away to take many photos of her. I took a few that would have been great if they weren’t overexposed, because like a moron I started shooting based off my settings from a previous overcast day, so I lost about 15 photos before I realized I was off. And yeah, I realize even some of these are overexposed too.
My dog is incredibly undignified.
These were after I took some shots and told Pepper “You’re so pretty!” I guess he wanted to prove how un-pretty he is.
And seriously. Can you blame her for not wanting to play with this thing? I mean really.
Attempt at a pretty Auggie…
Auggie and I have decided we are going to basically carry on our lives as though she is no big deal, and she’s just going to have to deal with it. If she won’t play with him, too bad… we are going to play and she can just sit and watch!
BALL
Ball is smelly (and also it needs some more air put in it.)
Auggie is perhaps a little unimpressed with all this, but he’s being a good sport.
Kinda.
Awkward expressions brought to you by… Pepper!
Another attempt at pretty Auggie.
MOAR BALL
Pepper thought she MIGHT want to play… then changed her mind.
Auggie: YAAAAAAAAAAAAY
Pepper: God you are so weird.
This is just how it is, LOL.
I love that she has white whiskers.
